Casper Event: Lester’s Legacy: Lessons from an Era of Fear
Join us on Sunday, June 9th at 9 AM at Art 321, 321 W. Midwest, Casper, for a compelling community conversation and panel discussion as we reflect on the life and tragic end of Wyoming’s U.S. Senator Lester Hunt, a steadfast voice of reason during the fearful politics of the 1950s. We will explore this story as an example of the devastating impact of McCarthyism on LGBTQ+ people and their families and examine the political fear-mongering of the day in relation to our modern context. Hosted by Casper Pride.
Our panel will include local leaders in politics, health, history, and more and will be moderated by Senator Cale Case of Lander. Together, we will explore how Hunt's life and death were impacted by anti-LGBTQ+ policy and how these events resonate today.
We will honor Senator Hunt's contributions while underscoring the need to uphold the values of courage and integrity in today’s political landscape. Join us as we connect the past with our present struggles for equality and reflect on the lessons from Lester Hunt’s life in our fight for a healthier political environment for all.
Hosted by Casper Pride.
Afterward, all are welcome to join Casper Pride for our annual Casper Pride march exemplifying this year’s theme: United.
